YEP Enriches: Learning, Creating, and Connecting

As the fall gets underway, YEP Enriches is bringing together community partners and familiar activities, including a special visit from New Orleans Saints Defensive End Cam Jordan, volunteers from Strong City Tulane, and the return of the YEP Drumline and Dance Team.

New Orleans Saints Defensive End Cam Jordan surprised youth at YEP’s after-school program with a special visit! He treated the kids to Raising Cane’s, spent time playing sports with them, and connected through casual conversation and encouragement. Before leaving, Cam shared uplifting words to inspire the youth and remind them of their potential. His visit brought excitement, laughter, and a meaningful reminder of the impact positive role models can have in young people’s lives.

Strong City Tulane, a group of undergraduates from the university, has supported YEP for several years through various initiatives. For the second consecutive year, Strong City Tulane is also volunteering at YEP Enriches providing homework assistance and encouragement to our young people. Their continued involvement gives the volunteers and participants a chance to build relationships and creates a familiar source of support throughout the school year. We are grateful to Strong City Tulane for continuing to share their time and energy with YEP and for helping create a supportive environment where participants can stay engaged with their schoolwork.

The YEP Enriches Garden Club is also getting its hands dirty this season, with participants learning how to germinate watermelon seeds and eventually enjoying the fruits of their labor. Meanwhile, the YEP Drumline and Dance Team are back, giving participants a chance to develop their skills, express themselves creatively, and connect with one another.

From homework help to gardening to creative expression, YEP Enriches continues to create spaces where participants can learn, explore their interests, and be part of a community. We’re looking forward to all that this fall has in store!
