Christy, a recent graduate of the Youth Empowerment Project’s (YEP) Trafigura Work & Learn (W&L) Center’s customer service training class, is a testament to the job training and placement services the program provides.
She was initially referred to the W&L program by staff at her high school who had relationships with several W&L staff and who knew that Christy was on the look-out for something to provide her with job training and a way to earn some extra money. Christy says the program was extremely beneficial to her, because she learned a lot about customer service.
In her words, "before I came to the Work & Learn Center, I thought I knew how to deal with people, but after finishing this class, I’ve learned how to deal with customers in a better way, and how to always get people what they need," a skill she knows will serve her well as she enters the workforce.
Christy also says that she really appreciates the Trafigura Work & Learn Center staff, as they are "always willing to help us find jobs." Because of her leadership skills and overall success in the W&L Center, after she graduated from the program Christy was hired by YEP as a summer camp counselor for our 2014 Summer Camp! Christy is thrilled with this opportunity, as it is her first "real" job. She also recently graduated from high school, and after spending her summer at YEP she will be attending college at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi.
We are so proud of Christy and look forward to watching her continue to grow and succeed.
